Biography of Dmitry Glinka

Dmitry Borisovich Glinka was born into a miner's family and was of Ukrainian descent. He joined the Soviet Army in 1937 and graduated from the military aviation school in 1939. During the Great Patriotic War, he participated in battles against the German fascist occupiers on the Crimean, Southern, North Caucasus, 3rd and 1st Ukrainian Fronts. In total, he completed around 300 combat flights and personally shot down 50 enemy airplanes. On April 21, 1943, Dmitry Borisovich Glinka was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. On August 24, 1943, he was awarded a second Gold Star medal for his new achievements. He was also decorated with numerous orders and medals.

After the war, Dmitry Glinka graduated from the Red Banner Military Air Academy and served in the Soviet Army until 1960. He retired as a colonel and currently resides in Moscow, where he works in civil aviation. He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
