Biography of Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov
Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov is a multi-talented actor with many names and professions. He has worked as a cobbler, welder, and tailor, served in the airborne troops in Hungary and Afghanistan, performed on provincial and metropolitan stages, and under the name 'Bykov,' he is a well-known performer of Russian chanson. He is also the beloved on-screen character of millions of viewers, who first recognized him as Dmitry Romashov and later as one of the most prominent characters in the TV series "The Cops" - Jackson. Dmitry Anatolyevich considers himself a descendant of the Don Cossacks. He was born on January 29, 1969, in the Kyrgyz capital of Frunze, now Bishkek. His parents cherished the memory of their Don ancestors and named Dmitry after his great-grandfather, who participated in the First World War and passed down to his descendants a Cossack cap and a sword. The family was large and hospitable, and their festive gatherings were grand and generous. To this day, Dmitry has retained his love for green tea from a piala and prefers the varieties brought to him from Central Asia.
Early Life and Career
After finishing school, Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov helped his father in the forge and tried various other professions, but he never settled on anything, especially since he was soon to be drafted into the army. As a strong young man with a lot of experience in street fights with his peers, he was assigned to the reconnaissance unit of an airborne regiment and served in Hungary and Afghanistan. It was his fellow soldiers, for whom Dmitry often came up with funny stories and playful pranks, who suggested that he should become an actor. However, Dmitry never even considered the stage. After completing his military service, Dmitry returned to his hometown and saw that Central Asia was no longer the same as it was during his childhood. In 1993, the Bykovsky family moved to Voronezh. Dmitry and his two brothers were invited to work at the local SOBR office, but it turned out that obtaining passports and Russian citizenship would take some time. During this time, Dmitry's sister introduced him to Violette Topologa, a teacher at the Voronezh Academy of Arts, who advised Dmitry to study acting and even offered him a place on her course. The young man was hesitant due to his age and lack of artistic experience, but his family, especially his mother, were delighted with his acceptance into the academy and provided him with full support during his studies.
Acting and Music Career
During vacations, Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov worked as a singer in restaurants - sometimes performing in a White Guard uniform with old romances and other times enthusiastically singing popular hits. He continued this occupation even after receiving his diploma in 1998, although he tried to keep it a secret from the management. Dmitry's stage debut took place in Voronezh, but the aspiring actor decided to try himself in one of the leading theaters. He moved to St. Petersburg and, despite his lack of acting experience, was accepted into the company of the Bolshoi Drama Theater. The famous K. Yu. Lavrov was able to recognize in Dmitry the qualities of a true national hero, and the success of the performances in which he participated confirmed this. To this day, Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov continues to perform on stage in various roles, including Vakula from Gogol's "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka," Nikita from "The Power of Darkness," Duke Alba from "Don Carlos," and Captain Bagaev from "Moth." At the same time, Dmitry successfully continued his career as a restaurant singer. In 2002, he formed the musical group "Pyatiletka" together with friends-musicians and producer A. Bryantsev. In this group, Dmitry, fearing a conflict with Lavrov, performed under the pseudonym Bykov, and he also released several albums under this name. His last album, "Fourth Album," was recorded in 2006. Some of Dmitry's popular chanson songs include "Pyatiletka," "Late, Barinya," and "My Gypsy."
Acting Career and Personal Life
In 2007, Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov stopped performing as a vocalist (although he later participated in several concerts), and in 2010, "Pyatiletka" disbanded. The main reason for Dmitry's departure from the popular group was his involvement in filming movies and TV series. His acting debut was the role of the criminal Kirill in the famous film "National Security Agent," and since then, Dmitry's screen persona (many of his works are credited under the name Romashov) has been either a criminal or someone who catches them. His portrayal of strong and confident men became highly sought after by directors, and to this day, the actor has appeared in almost fifty roles. In addition, his deep voice and expressive intonations have found application in voice acting. Since 2007, Dmitry has provided the voice for the animated character Ilya Muromets. Dmitry himself admits to having a great love for Soviet-era cartoons and often watches his own collection. As for his on-screen character, Captain (later Major) Yevgeny Ivanov, also known as Jackson, he has become a true national hero. Enchanted by Dmitry's charm and authenticity, viewers often ask him about the secrets of his work on this role. Dmitry claims that it is a composite image of all his friends and acquaintances who have had connections to law enforcement agencies, and that his wife, a police lieutenant colonel, is his main consultant and judge. In terms of his work in the theater, after the appointment of a new director at the Bolshoi Drama Theater, Dmitry Bykovsky-Romashov is seriously considering leaving the theatrical stage. For now, during his free time, he and his family visit his mother, who lives in a village with his younger brother, and enjoy the traditional Russian banya.
