Early Life and Education
Dmitry Ivanovich Yemelyanov was born in 1913 on the Novo-Savinsky farm in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia to a peasant family. He later attended and graduated from the Magnitogorsk Vocational School.
Military Career
In January 1942, Yemelyanov joined the Red Army and began fighting on the Voronezh Front from June 1942. As a Senior Sergeant and commander of a communications detachment in an artillery battery, he played a vital role in the Battle of the Dnieper.
Liberating Ukraine and Crossing into Czechoslovakia
After crossing the Dnieper, Yemelyanov participated in the liberation of Kiev. In 1944, he fought in the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Offensive and the liberation of Right-Bank Ukraine. As part of the 38th Army, he crossed the Carpathian Mountains into Slovakia and engaged in battles for the city of Morayska-Ostrava.
End of the War and Return Home
Yemelyanov ended the war in the area of the Czech city of Hradec Kralove. Demobilized in 1946, he returned to his hometown. In 1953, he relocated to the city of Zaporozhye, where he worked as a quality control inspector at the Zaporozhye Iron and Steel Works and the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant.
Awards and Recognition
For his bravery and heroism during the Dnieper River crossing, Yemelyanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in November 1943. He also received the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal. Additionally, he was honored with the Order of the Red Star and the Medal "For Military Merit."
Later Life and Legacy
Yemelyanov passed away on August 21, 1976, and was buried in the city of Zaporozhye. His legacy as a courageous and dedicated soldier continues to be remembered and honored in Russia today.
