Biography of Dmitry Stus

Dmitry Stus is a Ukrainian writer, literary critic, and editor. He was born on November 15, 1966, in Kyiv. Stus graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University in 1992. He obtained his Ph.D. in Philology in 1995, defending his dissertation on "Vasyl Stus' Palimpsest: Creative History and Textual Issues."

Stus began his academic career as a research fellow at the Department of Manuscript Funds and Textology at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He also served as the Deputy Chief Editor of the journal "Knizhnyk-Review" since 2001 and the head of the Criticism and Bibliography Department of the journal "Sovremennost" since 2001.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Stus is involved in various literary and cultural organizations. He has been the General Director of the Charitable Foundation "Ukraine Incognita" and the Vice President of the Association of Ukrainian Writers since February 2004. Stus has also been the Editor-in-Chief of the literary-critical journal "Kievskaya Rus" since 2006.

On February 9, 2013, Stus was elected as the Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Creative Union "Congress of Ukrainian Writers." He is a member of the Association of Ukrainian Writers since 1997 and a member of the Humanitarian Council under the President of Ukraine since 2010. Stus also holds the position of General Director of the Taras Shevchenko National Museum since January 2012.

Family

Dmitry Stus is the son of Ukrainian poet and dissident Vasily Stus (1938-1985) and Valentina Popelyukh (June 19, 1938 - March 25, 2022). His first wife was Oksana Stus, and they have two sons: Yaroslav (born on May 18, 1985), who graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and Stefan (born in 1991), who graduated from the Vadim Hetman Kyiv National Economic University.

Stus is currently married to Tatiana Shcherbachenko since 2003.
