Biography of Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton, an American country singer and actress, was born in Tennessee, USA. She was the twelfth child in a very poor family, but she managed to achieve what is known as the American Dream. From the age of ten, Dolly would sleep and eat less, using her last bit of money to take music lessons. In 1959, after singing in church for three years, she won the top prize at a competition for aspiring vocalists in Tennessee.
Journey to Success
Dolly Parton credits her bust as paving the way to her success. While one can agree with her, it was her divine and still girlish soprano voice that caught the attention of Billy Nelson. He invited her to join his American country salon. In 1964, she graduated from Berkeley and by 1967, she was already a professional singer at RCA.
Golden Debut and Hollywood
Her duets with Porter Wagoner became the golden debut that any aspiring singer would hope for. Their songs "Just Someone I Used To Know" and "Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man" (both in 1970) not only paved the way for Dolly Parton in the music industry but also led her to Hollywood. Continuing to work with Wagoner, Dolly Parton also acted in films, establishing herself as the "lovely blonde who can actually sing." Almost all of her recent albums have become gold records, and she has transitioned from country into mainstream music. One of her latest albums was co-written by Roger Waters, and the piano parts were composed by Billy Joel.
International Success and Family
After filming the movie "Steel Magnolias," Dolly Parton embarked on her first large-scale tour in Europe and surpassed Madonna in the ratings. Tickets for Dolly Parton's concerts, for example, in Japan, sold faster than Madonna's concerts. In the spring of 1993, Dolly Parton performed for the first time with her grandson, Mark, who plays the guitar (his teacher is Al Di Meola) and saxophone. Dolly Parton's children do not have any connection to music.
