Biography of Dominic Lawson
Dominic Lawson is a British journalist and editor. He started his career as a junior researcher at the BBC and later wrote for the 'Financial Times'. From 1990 to 1995, he served as the editor of the 'Spectator' magazine, a position previously held by his father from 1966 to 1970.
Family Background
Dominic Lawson is the son of Nigel Lawson, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and member of the Conservative Party, and his wife Vanessa Salmon. Vanessa Salmon was the heiress to the hotel and restaurant empire 'Lyons Corner House'. Sadly, Dominic's mother passed away in 1985 from liver cancer. Dominic also lost one of his sisters, Thomasina, to cancer. His other sister, Nigella Lawson, gained fame as a writer and host of a popular cooking show. Through his mother's side, Dominic is related to journalist and ecologist George Monbiot and lawyer Fiona Shackleton.
Personal Life
Dominic Lawson is married to Rosamond Mary Monckton, the daughter of the 2nd Viscount Monckton. They have two daughters, Domenica and Savannah, and are expecting their third daughter, Natalia. Domenica was born with Down syndrome, and Monckton actively supports the children's charity 'KIDS'.
Career Highlights
During his tenure as editor of the 'Spectator', Dominic Lawson achieved significant success. He conducted a notable interview with minister Nicholas Ridley in June 1990, in which Ridley displayed hostility towards Germany and the European Economic Community. Lawson further exacerbated the situation by stating that Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher shared Ridley's views. Following this controversial interview, Ridley was forced to resign from his position. Despite criticism, Conrad Black, a prominent figure in the Conservative Party, defended Lawson. Under Dominic's leadership, the magazine's circulation increased from 30,000 to 50,000, and it won the prestigious 'What The Papers Say' award, becoming the first and only time in its history.
Later Career
From 1995 to 2005, Dominic Lawson served as the editor of 'The Sunday Telegraph'. Since 2008, he has been writing a column for 'The Sunday Times'. Throughout his career, there have been rumors suggesting that Lawson worked for the MI-6 intelligence agency, but he vehemently denies any connection to the intelligence community.
