Dominique Dropsy was a renowned French goalkeeper who had a memorable career both at the international and club level.
International Career
Dropsy played for the French national team from 1978 to 1981, earning a total of 17 caps. He was a member of the French squad that participated in the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. Dropsy made his only World Cup appearance in the tournament's opening match, a 3-1 victory over Hungary. It remains France's only win at the 1978 World Cup.
Club Career
In the French league, Dropsy played for three clubs: Valenciennes, Strasbourg, and Bordeaux. He accumulated a total of 596 appearances in the top flight of French football. Dropsy's most successful period came during his time with Bordeaux, where he won three Ligue 1 titles (1979, 1985, and 1987) and two Coupe de France trophies (1986 and 1987).
Legacy
Dropsy retired from football in 1990. He has had a lasting impact on the sport, with his son Damien Dropsy following in his footsteps as a goalkeeper for the Bordeaux reserve team.
