Don Gorski - The Big Mac Lover

Don Gorski is an American fast food enthusiast, Guinness World Record holder, and self-proclaimed "Big Mac Lover." He is most famous for consuming over 25,000 Big Macs in his lifetime, earning him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Gorski claims that Big Macs make up 90% of his overall diet and has no plans to give up this unhealthy eating habit until his last breath.

The First Encounter

On May 17, 1972, Gorski took his first trip in his brand new car, and his destination of choice was McDonald's. He ate three Big Macs for lunch and returned to the restaurant twice more that day, devouring a total of nine hamburgers. In the following month, Gorski consumed 265 Big Macs, averaging 8.5 burgers per day. This amounted to 247 grams of fat per day or 7.67 kilograms of fat per month. He washed down his favorite dish exclusively with Coca-Cola and rarely indulged in french fries.

A Lifelong Obsession

Over time, McDonald's became an increasingly significant part of Gorski's life. He even proposed to his future wife, Mary, at a McDonald's restaurant. Although he has been loyal to the fast-food chain throughout his life, Gorski ventured once to its rival, Burger King. However, the experience of eating a Burger King sandwich was enough to steer him back to McDonald's. He even used the $5 he won from that bet to have another meal at McDonald's.

Record-breaking Feats

In 2003, Gorski consumed a remarkable 741 Big Macs, averaging two and three-hundredths burgers per day. Despite being 1.88 meters tall, Gorski weighs slightly under 84 kilograms. His daily hamburger intake provides him with half the recommended calorie intake for the average American.

On August 17, 2008, Gorski ate his 23,000th Big Mac, celebrating the milestone at his favorite McDonald's restaurant in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Since that first taste of a Big Mac, Gorski has gone only eight days without indulging in his favorite treat. Among these eight days were the day of his mother's death, a significant snowstorm that closed all McDonald's locations, and six other days when Gorski couldn't reach the restaurant for various reasons. To ensure he never runs out, Gorski keeps a substantial emergency supply of Big Macs in his refrigerator.

Recognition and Health

Gorski meticulously records every Big Mac he eats in a special notebook and keeps the receipts in a dedicated box. As of May 17, 2011, Gorski has surpassed 25,000 hamburgers. Remarkably, he has experienced no health problems related to his diet. The last time Gorski visited a doctor was on April 26, 2011, when his cholesterol level was recorded at 156 mg/deciliter compared to an average level of 208 mg/dl.

Media Appearances and Authorship

Gorski's extraordinary eating habits have attracted media attention, and he has been invited to various television shows. He has also been featured in two documentaries, "Super Size Me" in 2004 and "Don Gorske: Mac Daddy" in 2005. Gorski even tried his hand at writing and published his book, "22,477 Big Macs," in 2008.
