Donald Harvey, an American serial killer, was born on April 15, 1952, in Booneville, Kentucky. At a young age, he began working in the medical field as a janitor at Marymount Hospital in London, Kentucky. It was during this time that Harvey confessed to killing at least ten patients within nine months of his employment. The official number of his victims ranges from 36 to 57.
Harvey, a healthcare worker, claimed that he killed these patients to "ease their pain," although he derived sadistic pleasure from their deaths. As his obsession progressed, Donald became a true serial killer expert in the medical field, earning himself the moniker "Angel of Death." Currently, Harvey is serving three consecutive life sentences at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Ohio.
Early Career and Crimes
Before his murderous spree, Donald Harvey worked as a janitor at Marymount Hospital in London, Kentucky. He admitted to killing at least ten patients during his time there. Harvey insisted that he only took the lives of those who were terminally ill out of sympathy for their suffering. However, he also confessed that many of his victims irritated him, and they paid with their lives.
Harvey committed his crimes with impunity for over 17 years, as the true extent of his actions remained unknown. Many of his victims' deaths were attributed to natural causes, and their cases were not given special attention. Donald utilized various methods to carry out his atrocities, including poisoning with cyanide, insulin, and other deadly substances, as well as suffocation and tampering with life-supporting equipment. He infected patients with hepatitis B and/or HIV by injecting them with contaminated fluids, and he also caused peritonitis by damaging their catheters. Overall, cyanide and arsenic were his preferred means of killing, administering them intravenously or through food.
The majority of Harvey's crimes were committed at Marymount Hospital, Cincinnati V.A. Medical Hospital, and Drake Memorial Hospital in Cincinnati. His nickname, "Angel of Death," was given by hospital staff who noticed a significant number of patients under Harvey's care subsequently passing away. Despite his claims of performing euthanasia, the methods he employed indicated that he derived pleasure from his actions.
