Biography of Dorin Chirtoacă

Dorin Chirtoacă, a political figure and the mayor of Chișinău, is one of the most prominent and provocative Moldovan politicians. He was born on August 9, 1978 in Chișinău, Moldova.

Education and Career

In 2001, Dorin graduated from Bucharest University, where he studied law. He also received a legal education at a college in Bucharest, specializing in the European legal system. After completing his education, he decided to gain some work experience abroad, specifically by interning at several prominent law firms in the United States and France. He also completed an introductory course at the Council of Europe from the European Institute of Moldova. Dorin Chirtoacă is a well-educated and knowledgeable individual, capable of holding conversations in various fields of science and art. He is fluent in Romanian, English, French, and Russian.

Political Career

In 2001, Dorin Chirtoacă started working as an editor for the entertainment show "Surprize, Surprize." Within a year, he became the chief editor of the show. In 2005, he transitioned to the position of project coordinator for "Freedom of Elections and Freedom of the Press." In the same year, Chirtoacă became the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, marking the beginning of his political career. He gained recognition for his support of laws that aimed to close Russian-language radio stations in Chișinău and ban street advertising banners in Russian. He was also an active advocate for the unification of Moldova with Romania, with subsequent membership in NATO and the European Union.

Mayoral Elections

In 2005, Dorin Chirtoacă first participated in the mayoral election race in Chișinău. In the first round of voting, he received approximately 7.13% of the votes, securing the third place. However, the second round of voting did not take place due to insufficient voter turnout. In November 2005, the mayoral elections were repeated, and Chirtoacă finished in the first round with 25.14% of the votes. Once again, the second round was canceled due to a lack of voter turnout.

In June 2007, another attempt was made to elect a mayor, and this time, Dorin Chirtoacă came in second place in the initial round with 24.33% of the votes. However, he achieved an overwhelming victory in the second round with 61.17% of the votes. Chirtoacă currently holds the position of mayor of Chișinău. In early 2008, his driver's license was suspended for one year due to traffic violations.
