Early Life and Education
Driss Jettou was born in Casablanca, Morocco. He completed his secondary education at the Lycée El-Khaouarizmi, where he earned a mathematical technical baccalaureate degree in 1964. Subsequently, he pursued his higher education at the Faculty of Sciences in Rabat, graduating in 1966 with a degree in physics and chemistry. In 1968, Jettou also obtained a diploma in industrial equipment and management from Cordwainers College in London.
Professional Career
From 1968 to 1993, Jettou held various management positions in the private sector. He served as president-administrator or director of several companies, including the Moroccan Federation of Leather Industries (FEDIC). He was also a member of the bureau of the General Confederation of Enterprises in Morocco (CGEM) and vice-president of the Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX).
Ministerial Appointments
Jettou's political career began in 1993 when he was appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry in the government led by Prime Minister Karim Lamrani. He held this position until 1994, when he was reappointed as Minister of Commerce and Industry in the government of Abdellatif Filali.
In 1995, Jettou was promoted to Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Craft Industries, also within the Filali government. From 1997 to 1998, he served as Minister of Finance, Commerce, Industry, and Craft Industries. He later held the post of Minister of the Interior from 2001 to 2002.
Premiership
In 2002, Jettou was appointed Prime Minister by King Mohammed VI. He served in this role until 2007, when his party lost the parliamentary elections to the Istiqlal Party led by Abbas El Fassi.
Accolades
Jettou was awarded the Wissam du Trône, a Moroccan royal decoration, for his contributions to the country.
