Lieutenant General Douglas Lute, a highly respected military advisor, has been appointed as a key figure by George W. Bush to implement US strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Early Life and Education
Lute was born in Michigan City, Indiana, and graduated from the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point in 1975. In 1983, he earned a Master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University.
Military Career
After graduating from West Point, Lute served in Germany for several years. He then taught social sciences at West Point and attended the British Staff College.
In 1990-1991, Lute participated in Operation Desert Storm, gaining valuable combat experience. He later served as an aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for 14 months.
