Early Life and Career

Born in Belgrade, Serbia to Slovenian parents, Dušan Basta began his football journey with the local team PKB Padinska Skeka. His exceptional talent soon caught the attention of scouts from Crvena Zvezda, who invited him to join their youth academy.

Professional Debut at Crvena Zvezda

In 2004, at the age of 17, Basta signed his first professional contract with Crvena Zvezda. However, intense competition in the club's defense limited his playing time to only 12 appearances in the first three seasons.

Loan to Jedinstvo Ub and Return to Crvena Zvezda

To gain more experience, Basta was loaned out to small-town club Jedinstvo Ub for a season. There, he impressed with his attacking prowess, scoring several goals as a fullback. His performances earned him a recall to Crvena Zvezda, where he quickly established himself as a regular starter.

Captain and Departure from Crvena Zvezda

Following the departure of several key players, Basta became captain and a respected leader of the team. His performances attracted interest from numerous clubs, and in July 2008, he transferred to Serie A side Lecce.

International Career

Basta's strong play and competitive spirit caught the attention of the Serbian national team. He made his international debut in 2005 and was part of the squad that represented Serbia at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, although he did not make any appearances.
