Early Life and Career in Sarajevo
Emir Spahić was born on August 18, 1980, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He began his football career in the youth academy of local club FK Sarajevo. In 1999, he made his professional debut for the senior team.
During his time at Sarajevo, Spahić became an integral player, racking up 114 appearances and scoring 9 goals. He also served as the team's captain for a period.
Loan Spell at Osnabrück and Return to Sarajevo
In 2003, Spahić moved to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. However, he failed to make an official appearance for the club. In 2004, he joined VfL Osnabrück on loan, where he played in 13 matches.
After his loan spell, Spahić returned to Sarajevo in 2005, where he made 22 appearances and scored 2 goals.
Successful Stint at Litex Lovech
In 2005, Spahić transferred to Bulgarian club Litex Lovech, where he spent four seasons. He made 121 appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals. During his time at Litex, he won the Bulgarian Cup in 2007/08 and was a finalist in 2006/07.
Loan to Kuban and Move to Turkey
In August 2007, Spahić joined Russian club FC Kuban on loan. He played five matches in the Russian Premier League and one for the reserve team. After a brief spell at Kuban, he returned to Litex.
In January 2009, Spahić moved to Turkish club Denizlispor. He later returned to Bulgaria and Germany, where he played for several other clubs.
International Career
Spahić made his debut for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2004. He went on to make 80 appearances for his country, scoring 3 goals. He retired from international football in 2010.
