Early Life and Influences

Ebla Mari was born and raised in the Druze village of Majdal Shams, located on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. As a child, she found solace in theater, observing people and imagining their lives. Growing up in a creative environment, she pursued music and theater instead of following her family's tradition of painting.

Education and Adversity

After high school, Ebla attended the University of Haifa, where she faced challenges as an Arab student in an Israeli institution. She experienced racism and discrimination, which alienated her. However, theater provided a refuge, becoming her second home.

Teaching and Community Involvement

Upon graduating, Ebla returned to her village and dedicated herself to teaching drama to children. Through her passion and knowledge, she aimed to inspire her students with a lifelong love of theater.

Acting Career

Ebla's acting career took an unexpected turn when she was cast as the lead role in Ken Loach's "The Old Oak," a film about Syrian refugees. To prepare for the part, she studied the history of Homs, Syria, and spent time with Syrian refugees in the UK. Her portrayal of Yara, a refugee struggling to build a life in England, resonated deeply with audiences.

Personal Life

Ebla remains close to her family and values the simplicity and community of her village. While her debut film has brought her recognition, she continues to teach drama. She dreams of establishing a production company in Majdal Shams, fostering authentic storytelling.

Current Focus

Ebla is not currently filming but remains committed to acting. She continues to inspire her students, promote theater in her community, and work towards her goal of producing meaningful films that reflect the experiences of her people.
