Biography of Eddie Vedder

Eddie Vedder is an American musician, vocalist, and guitarist of the band Pearl Jam. He is considered an icon of alternative rock and is ranked 7th in Rolling Stone's 'Best Lead Singers of All Time' list. Vedder was born as Edward Louis Severson III in 1964 in Evanston, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. His parents, Karen Lee Vedder and Edward Louis Severson Jr., divorced when he was only one year old. His mother later remarried to lawyer Peter Mueller, and Vedder grew up believing he was his biological father. He even changed his name to Eddie Mueller after being adopted. In the mid-1970s, Vedder and his three younger stepbrothers moved to San Diego, California with their family. It was on his 12th birthday in San Diego when Vedder received his first guitar as a gift from his mother. He developed a love for music, especially for 'The Who,' and admitted that music helped him cope with feelings of loneliness during his teenage years.

When Vedder finished high school, his mother and stepfather divorced, and his mother returned to Chicago while Vedder stayed with Peter to finish his education. It was around this time that Vedder learned from his uncle that Peter was not his biological father, and he had already seen his real father a few times, considering him merely a family friend. However, by the time the truth was revealed, Vedder's biological father had already passed away from multiple sclerosis.
