Early Life and Education
Edgar Markosyan was born in 1997 in Razdan, Armenia. His family later moved to Yerevan, where he attended schools and excelled academically. In 2015, he enrolled in the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, earning a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering with honors in 2019.
Military Service
Despite an educational deferment, Markosyan chose to serve in the Armenian Armed Forces in July 2019. He was stationed in Gyumri, where he was awarded "Best Soldier of the Year." After completing training and examinations, he received the rank of junior sergeant and was deployed to Artsakh in January 2020.
Armenian-Azerbaijani War
From September to October 2020, Markosyan played a pivotal role in the Armenian-Azerbaijani War. According to Armenian media, he destroyed 10 Azerbaijani tanks in the direction of the Talish village, preserving the vital part of the front line entrusted to him. During the conflict, he sustained a spinal cord injury.
Honors and Recognition
In recognition of his bravery, Markosyan was awarded the title of "Hero of Artsakh" by the President of the Republic of Artsakh in October 2020. He also received the prestigious "Golden Eagle" Order.
Personal Interests
Markosyan participated in the Artsakh War without informing his parents about his deployment. They only discovered his involvement when they saw him being honored as a "Hero of Artsakh" on television.
