Charles-Édouard Lefebvre de Laboulaye (1811-1889)

Early Life and Education

Charles-Édouard Lefebvre de Laboulaye was born in Paris, France, on January 10, 1811, the son of Charles Marie Zevaor. He received his education at the prestigious École des Chartes, the École Normale Supérieure, and the École de Droit.

Academic Career

After completing his studies, Laboulaye became a professor of history at the Collège de France. He was known for his liberal views and his advocacy for the study of history. He published a number of influential works on French and medieval history, including:

In his later years, Laboulaye continued to write and publish. He also played a key role in the founding of the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (Free School of Political Science), which is now a leading university in France. Laboulaye died in Paris on March 29, 1889.
