Yuri Grigorievich Laptev

Early Life and Education

Yuri Grigorievich Laptev was born on October 12 (25), 1903, in Vyatka (now Kirov). In 1927, he graduated from the Cinema School. From 1928 to 1931, he studied at the Moscow Higher Technical University (MVTU).

Career in Film and Literature

During his earlier career, Laptev worked as an actor, appearing in the film "Izmena" (1933). He also served as an assistant director and an editor. In 1942, his first novel was published.

Military Service

With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War in June 1941, Laptev joined the Red Army. In 1942, he became a special correspondent for the newspaper "Krasny Sokol" of the 18th Air Army. He became a member of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1943.

Post-War Career

After the war, Laptev worked as a pro-rector at the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute until 1975. His literary works focused on themes of post-war rural life, collective farm work, and Soviet youth.

Death and Legacy

Yuri Grigorievich Laptev died in 1984. His contributions to Soviet literature, including his depiction of the post-war period, continue to be recognized.
