French politician Jean-Antoine Courtois(1746-1835) served as a member of the Legislative Assembly, the Convention, and the Council of Elders.
Contributions to the Revolution
After the 9th Thermidor, Courtois was tasked by the Convention to examine documents found in Robespierre's home. He subsequently became a member of the Committee of Public Safety, where he vigorously pursued the persecution of Jacobins.
Role in the Brumaire Coup
Courtois was an accomplice in the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire (November 9, 1799), which overthrew the Directory. He was elected to the Tribunate, but suspicions of bribery led to his removal.
Publications
A collection of Courtois' papers was published posthumously under the title "Papiers inédits trouvés chez Robespierre, Saint-Just etc."(Paris, 1828).
