Biography of Edward Archbold
Edward Archbold was a 32-year-old resident of Florida who tragically lost his life during a cockroach-eating competition. The event was organized as a challenge for participants to win a python by consuming several dozen live cockroaches and worms. Edward successfully completed the task, but unfortunately, it cost him his life.

A Deadly Challenge
While many people have seen television shows where individuals are offered substantial rewards to perform nauseating tasks, such as eating a jar of bull's eyes, these challenges are often simply unpleasant rather than life-threatening. However, in Edward Archbold's case, the challenges presented by the organizers turned out to be not only unpleasant but also fatally dangerous.

A Tragic End
Edward Archbold collapsed unconscious in front of the 'Ben Siegel Reptile Store', located about 40 miles north of Miami, where the competition took place. Medical professionals were immediately called to the scene, and Archbold was rushed to the hospital, where his death was officially pronounced. The cause of his death was asphyxiation, as his airways were blocked by pieces of cockroach bodies.
A Devastating Accident
According to the coroner's explanation to reporters, the epiglottis, which normally protects our respiratory tract from the entry of food, proved helpless in this tragic case. It was revealed in the video footage that Archbold swallowed the insects too hurriedly, attempting to breathe and swallow simultaneously, which ultimately led to his untimely demise. There were no illegal drugs or substances found in Archbold's blood during the autopsy, suggesting that the incident was a horrific accident.
A Beloved Individual
Kim Crawford, one of the managers at Busch Canvas & Interiors, where Archbold had worked for approximately four years, described him as an excellent guy and a good friend. Everyone who knew him is deeply saddened by the tragic event. Archbold was not the only participant in the competition; approximately 30 other individuals also consumed worms and cockroaches without experiencing any health issues afterward, according to authorities.
