Early Life and Education
Born on August 20, 1913, in Mogilev, Belarus, to a working-class family, Zlatin was Jewish. He graduated from the Workers' Faculty (Rabfak) and served in the Red Army from 1935 to 1937.
Military Service
At the outbreak of World War II, Zlatin was recalled to the army and sent to the front in December 1942. As a commander of a mortar platoon in the 225th Guards Rifle Regiment, he distinguished himself in September 1943 at the Dnieper River crossing near Verkhnedneprovsk.
Heroism at the Dnieper
Zlatin's platoon crossed the Dnieper and established a firing position on Glinsk-Borodaeva Island, supporting the infantry in repelling enemy counterattacks. Despite being wounded, he remained in action.
Recognition and Honors
On October 26, 1943, Zlatin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and two Orders of the Red Star.
Post-War Career
After the war, Zlatin graduated from the Engels Leningrad Military-Political School in 1944. He was demobilized in 1945 due to illness and lived and worked in Moscow until his death in 1965.
