Biography of Oleg Kozlov
Oleg Anatolyevich Kozlov was born on August 8, 1972 in the city of Kulyab, Republic of Tajikistan. He is of Russian descent. In September 1987, he enrolled in the Vocational and Technical School No. 32 in Kulyab, where he studied to become a locksmith-plumber. After completing his studies, he worked in this field until September 1991 at the Kulyab branch of the State Transport Machine Plant No. 4.
In March 1993, Oleg was called to serve in the Border Troops of the Russian Federation. It was during his time in the military that he displayed exceptional courage and heroism, which led to him being awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. On October 3, 1994, President of the Russian Federation issued a decree granting the title of Hero of the Russian Federation to Oleg Anatolyevich Kozlov for his bravery and heroism demonstrated during the combat operations in the Republic of Tajikistan.
One of the notable moments of Oleg's military service was during the night of August 18-19 when the outpost he was stationed at came under intense enemy fire. While the main efforts of the paratrooper border guards were focused on the right flank of the defense, the left flank remained vulnerable and exposed to the threat of enemy encirclement. Recognizing the imminent danger, Oleg Kozlov, a private and a sniper in the 117th Border Detachment's assault maneuver group, volunteered to cover the left flank of the defense.
Taking up a favorable position with little cover, Oleg engaged in sniper fire, targeting enemy firing positions and successfully destroying an RPG crew, two enemy snipers, and suppressing a machine gun crew. Thanks to his decisive and heroic actions, the enemy, despite their numerical superiority, failed to break through to the left flank of the outpost.
During an artillery bombardment on the "Turg" outpost, Oleg Kozlov constantly accompanied Lieutenant Khmelev, providing him with cover, conducting battlefield observations, and suppressing enemy firing positions.
On the morning of August 19, 1994, Private Kozlov, using his sniper rifle, provided cover fire for a group of paratroopers who were liberating a captured right position, successfully suppressing an RPG crew. Throughout the operation, Oleg Kozlov did not leave the battlefield until his replacement arrived.
Oleg Kozlov's exceptional bravery and dedication to duty during his military service exemplify the qualities of a true hero. His actions in the face of danger and his selfless commitment to protecting his fellow soldiers serve as an inspiration to all.
