Isaac Shayevich Dvukhbabny: Soviet War Hero

Isaac Shayevich Dvukhbabny was born into a working-class family in the village of Talnoye, Ukraine. After completing seven years of school, he worked in a construction materials factory in his hometown.

Military Career

In December 1940, Dvukhbabny was drafted into the Red Army. He was deployed to the active front in 1941, serving as a gun layer in the 490th Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment.

Heroism at Eltigen

On November 5, 1943, Dvukhbabny participated in a daring amphibious landing at Eltigen on the Crimean Peninsula. As part of the advanced assault party, he directly targeted and destroyed enemy defenses, including a searchlight, two 37mm guns, and two machine guns. His actions enabled the safe landing of the remaining landing force.

Sacrifice and Legacy

In the ensuing battle, Dvukhbabny knocked out two enemy tanks with his artillery and detonated a third with a grenade. Tragically, he was killed in action during the fierce fighting. For his extraordinary courage and selflessness, Dvukhbabny was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on June 3, 1944.

Recognition and Remembrance

Dvukhbabny's legacy as a war hero continues to inspire generations. A monument was erected in his honor in his hometown of Talnoye, and his name is commemorated on a memorial in the city of Kerch. The heroic defense of Eltigen remains a testament to his bravery and the sacrifice of countless Soviet soldiers in the fight against Nazi Germany.
