Aileen Heckart: An American Actress

Aileen Heckart was an American actress and the recipient of the "Best Supporting Actress" Academy Award in 1972. She was born Anna Aileen Heckart in Columbus, Ohio, to an Irish family. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in drama. Heckart began her career on Broadway as an assistant director and understudy in the play "The Voice of the Turtle" in 1943. She then went on to perform in several Broadway productions before transitioning to television and film.

Academy Award and Personal Life

In 1972, Heckart won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film "Butterflies Are Free." She married John Harrison Yanulis Jr. in 1944 and they remained together until his death in 1997. Aileen Heckart passed away from cancer at her home in Norwalk, Connecticut, at the age of 82.
