Early Life and EducationMarlo Thomas, an American film and television actress, was born on November 21, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, USA. She was born to Rose Marie Mantell and Danny Thomas and had a brother, Tony, and a sister, Terry, who both went on to become actors. Marlo's father worked as a comedian. Shortly after Marlo's birth, the entire family moved to Los Angeles, where she attended Marymount High School and later enrolled at the University of Southern California.
Early Career
Initially, Marlo Thomas worked as a schoolteacher before transitioning into television acting. Her first appearance on television was in 1961 on The Joey Bishop Show, where she caught the attention of producers and began receiving invitations to appear in various TV series. She worked in shows such as The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, Ben Casey, My Favorite Martian, and Bonanza for five years.

In 1966, Marlo Thomas was cast in the comedy series That Girl. The show aired for five years, and during that time, Marlo Thomas received four Emmy Award nominations and won a Golden Globe Award in 1967. Marlo Thomas won three Emmy Awards, the first in 1974 for her role in the series Free to Be... She was also nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, for her role in the film Jenny in 1971, the series Consenting Adult in 1986, and the series Nobody's Child in 1987. Marlo Thomas received an Emmy Award nomination in 1996 for her memorable guest appearance on the series Friends. She has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 1980, Marlo Thomas married the renowned showman and television host Phil Donahue. Although they do not have any biological children, Marlo Thomas has raised five adopted children. She maintains a close relationship with her brother, actor Tony Thomas, and is actively involved in philanthropy, regularly donating substantial sums to the St. Jude Children's Home in California.
