Biography of Yoko Tsukuda
Yoko Maria Tsukuda is a Japanese opera soprano. She was born in Japan and completed a master's program in vocal music at a college in Tokyo in the spring of 2002. Yoko Maria has participated in master classes with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf and Mitsuko Shirai, and she is currently continuing her studies with Jorma Hynninen.
Early Career
During her time at university, she performed the roles of Carmen, Amanyaqu, Donna Elvira from Don Giovanni, Lady in The Magic Flute, Marcelina in The Marriage of Figaro, and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. Her repertoire includes numerous roles from the classical repertoire of both domestic and foreign composers, including Mimi in "La Boheme" by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, "Rusalka" by Antonin Dvorak, and about a dozen "Ave Marias" by Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach, Cesar Franck, Camille Saint-Saens, Anton Rubinstein, and other composers.
Awards and Achievements
Yoko Maria Tsukuda is the winner of many international competitions. In 2001, she received the 2nd prize in the Le Splendeur competition (no first place was awarded) and the 3rd place in the Chokohai International Competition. In 2002, she received a special jury prize in the French music competition in Japan.
In 2004, she was awarded an encouragement prize in the German music competition and received an award in the Czech music competition. In 2005, Yoko Maria Tsukuda took 3rd place in the Elpian Singing Competition and was also awarded an encouragement prize in the Romanian singing competition.
