Elena Yakovlevna Sheinina: Ukrainian Children's Writer and Scholar
Elena Yakovlevna Sheinina is a renowned Ukrainian children's writer, public figure, and cultural scholar. She writes in both Ukrainian and Russian and is the mother of seven children, earning her the title of "Mother Heroine."
Education and Career
Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Sheinina attended School No. 13 and went on to study at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (now Kharkiv Polytechnic National University) from 1982 to 1985. She later pursued music at the Moscow Institute of Culture, graduating in 1991 with a degree in choir conducting. From 1991 to 1998, she worked at the NLO (Initial Literary Education) pedagogical laboratory under the guidance of the esteemed educator and children's writer V.A. Levin. During the 1990s, she also taught music in both general education and music schools.
Literary and Scholarly Work
Since 1998, Sheinina has devoted herself to literary pursuits. She has authored numerous articles in magazines and collections, writing both under her own name and under the pseudonym E. Krivich. She has also collaborated on and edited children's books. As a cultural scholar, she is best known for her seminal work, "Encyclopedia of Symbols."
Publicistic Writing
As a public speaker and writer, Sheinina delves into the philosophical, cultural, and psychological foundations of education and pedagogy. Between 2008 and 2009, she published a series of articles on these topics in the Ukrainian journal "Vidkritiy Urok." In 2009, she hosted the "Microphone" column in the same magazine. She has also contributed articles to the "Director of School" journal and the popular Russian pedagogical publisher "1 September."
Active Participation in Cultural Activities
Sheinina is an active participant in the cultural seminar held in Kharkiv. Her involvement reflects her deep engagement with cultural issues and her commitment to fostering dialogue and intellectual exchange.
