Elena Skrynnik: A Pioneering Politician and Entrepreneur
Early Life and EducationElena Borisovna Skrynnik (née Novitskaya) was born on August 30, 1961, in Korkino, Chelyabinsk Oblast. Her father was a mining engineer, while her mother held a leadership position at a local factory. In 1986, Skrynnik graduated from the Chelyabinsk State Medical Institute.

Medical Career
After graduating medical school, Skrynnik worked in the clinic of the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute. She later became the deputy chief physician of the hospital of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Combine. Skrynnik then pursued a career in cardiology at the Chelyabinsk Regional Hospital.

Business Ventures
In 1992, Skrynnik graduated from the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation. She completed internships in Germany and France, specializing in leasing technologies. In 1994, she founded the Interregional Medical Leasing Company "Medlizing." Known as "Madame Leasing," she faced accusations of money laundering. However, in 1998, she received an international award for the best leasing project.

Involvement in Leasing Industry
From 1997 to 2002, Skrynnik led the Russian Association of Leasing Companies. In 1998, she became the chair of the Expert Council on Leasing. In 1999, the Russian Biographical Institute named her "Person of the Year" in the category of "Economics and Entrepreneurship."

Political Career
Skrynnik joined the board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in 2000. In 2002, she became the CEO of Rosagroleasing. In November 2008, she was elected to the Supreme Council of the United Russia political party. On March 12, 2009, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin appointed Skrynnik as the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
Resignation and Investigations
On May 21, 2012, Skrynnik was dismissed from her position by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation. Investigations into her activities are currently underway. Since last fall, Skrynnik has been living outside of Russia with her biological and adopted children.
