Early Life and FamilyElin Maria Pernilla Nordegren was born on January 1, 1980, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her mother, Barbro Holmberg, is a politician and former Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy. Her father, Thomas Nordegren, is a radio journalist and served as Bureau Chief in Washington, D.C. Elin has an older brother, Axel, and a twin sister, Josefin.
Modeling and Education
Nordegren began her modeling career in 2000, gracing the cover of "Café Sport" magazine that summer. She also worked in the fashion industry in Stockholm, where she met Mia Parnevik, the wife of Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik.
Meeting Tiger Woods
Elin met Tiger Woods at the 2001 British Open, introduced by Jesper Parnevik. Woods had been courting her for over a year, but had been unsuccessful as she was in a relationship at the time. Nordegren aspired to become a child psychologist.
Marriage and Family
In November 2003, Woods and Nordegren traveled together to the Presidents Cup in South Africa, where Woods proposed. They married in October 2004 at the Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados. False Photos and Legal Action
Shortly after the news of Elin's relationship with Woods became public, nude photos emerged online that were allegedly of her. However, it was later revealed that the photos were actually of model Kim Hiott and were taken from a "Playboy" special edition. The Irish magazine "The Dubliner" also published the photos, making false claims that they were of Elin. Nordegren sued the magazine, demanding a retraction and damages of $366,500.
