Elisenda Vives i Balmaña
Diplomatic CareerElisenda Vives i Balmaña holds the position of Permanent Representative of Andorra to the United Nations in New York since November 2015. Prior to this appointment, she served as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Andorra to the United Nations in New York from July to November 2015 and Chair of the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO from April 2012 to July 2015.
Government and Administrative Roles
From 1998 to 2001, Elisenda Vives i Balmaña held the position of Director of Public Policy for the Government of Andorra. During this period, she also served as an accredited ambassador to Italy and Morocco. From 2001 to 2012, she held responsibility for protocol and administrative affairs in the General Council of the Valleys of Andorra.
UNESCO Involvement
In 2012, Elisenda Vives i Balmaña became the Chair of the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO. She held this position until 2015, when she was appointed Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Andorra to the United Nations in New York.
Education and Research
Elisenda Vives i Balmaña holds a PhD in Philosophy and a PhD in Historical Sciences from the University of Andorra. She is the author and co-author of numerous works in history, archaeology, and anthropology. Notable among her publications are five monographs, including "On Medieval Burials in Catalonia and Neighboring Regions" (1988) and "Medieval Catalan Population: Origin and Evolution" (1990).
