Eliza grew up in Camden Town and spent a lot of time behind the scenes of theaters, accompanying her mother during her performances. Inspired by her mother's success as a singer, Eliza always knew she wanted to pursue a career in music or acting. She took her stage name, Doolittle, from the musical "My Fair Lady", which was based on Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion".

She released her debut EP, "Eliza Doolittle", in November 2009, which featured four tracks including "Moneybox", "Police Car", "Rollerblades", and "Go Home". These songs were later remixed by artists like Plastic Little, Sam Young, and Jamie from "The xx". Some of her songs even received radio airplay.
