Early Life and Education
Elles de Graaf is a Dutch trance singer and dancer who received her formal training at the Stichting Amsterdamse Balletacademie under the tutelage of Lucia Marthas. There, she honed her skills in dance, jazz, contemporary ballet, and acrobatics.
Modeling, Dancing, and Backing Vocals
De Graaf soon branched out into modeling and dance, performing at various parties, concerts, and television shows. She also established her own contemporary dance agency called "Concert Building," where she scouted and showcased emerging dancers. Additionally, she contributed her vocals as a backing singer for various concerts.
Collaboration with Armin van Buuren
In 2001, Elles de Graaf caught the attention of Armin van Buuren, who was in search of a vocalist. Impressed by her distinctive and powerful vocals, they collaborated on the iconic track "Sound of Goodbye," released under van Buuren's alias, "Perpetuous Dreamer." De Graaf also featured in the music video for the song.
The End of Perpetuous Dreamer
The success of "Sound of Goodbye" sparked some uncertainty within van Buuren regarding the Perpetuous Dreamer project, which he felt had become overly commercial. Their subsequent collaboration, "Dust Wav," failed to replicate the same success as its predecessor. Consequently, the Perpetuous Dreamer partnership ended, although van Buuren and de Graaf remain friends.
Subsequent Collaborations
De Graaf's career extended beyond her work with van Buuren. She collaborated with Blank & Jones and Ferry Corsten, among others. In 2006, Russian producer and DJ Dmitry Almazov (Bobina) included her vocals on his composition "Lighthouse."
