Three years later, she landed her first major role in the historical drama "Van Gogh" directed by Maurice Pialat. It was in the 1994 film "Mina Tannenbaum" directed by Martine Dugowson that Zylberstein was able to fully showcase her talent. She played one of the lead roles alongside Roman Boringer. It was after this film that she gained recognition from critics and audiences.

In 1996, Zylberstein collaborated once again with Boringer and Dugowson in the film "Portraits Chinois". The following year brought her even greater popularity among English-speaking audiences with her role in the British drama "Metroland" alongside Christian Bale and Emily Watson. Zylberstein's character added a significant amount of erotic beauty to the film, effortlessly combining razor-sharp intelligence with ethereal sensuality.

Career in French Cinema

Most of Elsa's prominent roles have been in French films, where she often portrayed strong, intelligent, and complex women in various melodramas and absurdist comedies. In the late 1990s, she appeared in Raoul Ruiz's film adaptation of Marcel Proust's legendary novel "Le Temps retrouvé", which was warmly received by critics.

From 1997 to 2005, Zylberstein was in a relationship with French television presenter Antoine de Caunes. Later, she became involved with Georges-Marc Binome, an advisor to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Their relationship was not hindered by their opposing political beliefs, as Elsa has always been a devoted socialist.
