Biography of Emile Keller

Emile Keller was a French political figure who was born in Alsace. He served as a member of the legislative body, where he defended the secular authority of the Pope. During the war with Germany, Keller commanded a battalion of volunteer sharpshooters in the Vosges mountains.

Political Career

In 1871, Keller became a deputy in the National Assembly representing the Upper Rhine department. He voted against peace negotiations and, along with other Alsatian deputies, resigned from his position. However, he was re-elected by the Belfort district to the National Assembly. From then until 1881, Keller was the leader of the clerical party in France.

In 1881, Keller was not re-elected, ending his political career. Despite this, he continued to contribute to the political discourse through his writings.

Written Works

One of Keller's notable works is "Le général de Lamoricière, sa vie militaire, politique et religieuse" (1873), which translates to "General de Lamoricière: His Military, Political, and Religious Life."
