Early Life and EducationEmilie Dequenne was born on August 29, 1981, in Beloeil, Belgium. From a young age, she exhibited a passion for performing arts. At the age of eight, she enrolled in a diction and public speaking course at the Baudour Music Academy in Saint-Ghislain. By the age of 13, she had begun studying acting at the Théâtre La Relève. In 1998, she won the Prix de la Ville de Mons at a public speaking competition organized by the Richelieu Club in Mons-Borinage.
Film Career
Emilie Dequenne's film debut came in 1999 when she played the lead role in the Dardenne brothers' drama "Rosetta." Her performance earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Her next significant role was as Marianne de Morangias in Christophe Gans' historical action film "Brotherhood of the Wolf" (2001).
In 2007, Dequenne appeared in the anthology film "Chacun son cinéma" in the segment "Playback" directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. In 2012, she received the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard section for her performance in Joachim Lafosse's drama "After Love."

In the early 2000s, Emilie Dequenne was romantically involved with DJ Alexandre Savarese. The couple had a daughter, Mia, in 2002 but separated in 2005. In 2008, Dequenne began a relationship with comedian Michel Ferracci, and they eventually married in 2014 in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
In 2023, Dequenne actively participated in protests against the pension reform in France. She made a public announcement about her health later that year, revealing that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She underwent surgery in August and later disclosed that she had been diagnosed with adrenal cancer. Thanks to timely treatment, she achieved remission.
Recent Work
Despite her health challenges, Dequenne has continued to work actively in film in 2023 and 2024. She played the lead role of Odile in Gilles Legardinier's dramedy "Mr. Blake to Your Service!", which premiered in November 2023. In 2024, she appeared in Frederic Jardin's disaster film "The Last Day on Earth."
