Emilio Colombo was an Italian political figure and Prime Minister of Italy from 1970 to 1972. He actively participated in the political life of both Italy and Europe as a whole. In 2003, he was appointed as a senator for life.

Early Life
Emilio Colombo was born in Potenza, Basilicata, Italy. After earning a degree in law, Emilio began to apply his acquired skills in practice. He entered politics by becoming a member of the Christian Democracy party in Italy.
Political Career
Colombo gradually climbed up the political ladder, eventually reaching the pinnacle of the Italian political system by becoming the Prime Minister from 1970 to 1972. His political career did not end with his resignation from this post. He later served as the President of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1979.
Colombo later returned to Italian politics and held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs for two terms, from 1980 to 1983 and from 1992 to 1993. It took Colombo ten years after stepping down as Minister of Foreign Affairs to receive the highest political honor in Italy. In 2003, he was appointed as a senator for life by the President of Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
Later Years and Legacy
In November 2003, Colombo admitted to using cocaine for a period of one to one and a half years, claiming it was for medical purposes. In 2013, the Italian Senate faced an unexpected situation after the elections, with a discrepancy in the balance of power between the Senate and the Parliament.
Colombo served as the speaker of the Senate until March 16, 2013, when a new chairman was finally elected. After the death of Giulio Andreotti on May 6, 2013, Colombo became the last surviving member of the Italian Constituent Assembly. However, his tenure in this role was short-lived as he passed away on June 24, 2013, at the age of 93.
