Early Life and Education
Hannah Lamdan was born in 1905 in Szyrowce, Ukraine, to a grocery store owner, Meir Kraushansky, and his wife, Maryam Aronovna Rapoport. She attended high school in Novoselytsia.
Socialist Zionist Activism
In 1926, Lamdan immigrated to Mandate Palestine and joined the socialist Zionist movements Ha-Shomer Ha-Tzair and Ahdut Ha-Avoda. She became an active member of the Histadrut, a labor organization.
Role in the Labor Movement
Lamdan served on the Tel Aviv Workers' Council and as chairwoman of its Women's Faction from 1937 to 1940. She was also a member of the Women Workers' Council Secretariat from 1944 to 1949.
Political Career
In 1948, Lamdan joined the MAPAM party and was elected to the Knesset in the first general election. She was re-elected in 1951. In 1953, she left MAPAM and co-founded the Sia Bilti Talui party with David Livshitz. She later joined MAPAI in 1954.
Lamdan lost her Knesset seat in 1955 but was re-elected in 1957 and again in 1962. In 1965, she left MAPAI and helped establish the RAFI party.
Personal Life
Hannah Lamdan was married to Pesach Lamdan, a Haaretz journalist. Their son, Hen Lamdan, became a successful businessman and owner of the Lamdan Group.
