Emmanuel Lubezki was born in Mexico City, Mexico. His father was the actor Muni Lubezki. One of Lubezki's grandmothers immigrated to Mexico from Shanghai, having previously moved from Russia. His career in the film and television industry began in the late 80s, working on several well-known projects at the national level, such as the cult horror film series 'La Hora Marcada'.

Collaboration with Alfonso Cuarón

Lubezki collaborated extensively with renowned Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón. The two were friends since their teenage years and attended film school together at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. They have worked on six projects together, including 'Sólo con tu Pareja' (1991), 'A Little Princess' (1995), 'Great Expectations' (1998), 'Y tu mamá también' (2001), 'Children of Men' (2006), and 'Gravity' (2013).
