Biography of Enrique Bátiz Campbell
Early Life and EducationEnrique Bátiz Campbell is a Mexican pianist and conductor, born on June 6, 1942. He began his musical journey at the age of eight under the guidance of Francisco Ahea. Bátiz studied at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas with György Sándor, and later at the Juilliard School with Adele Marcus.
European Training and Career
From 1967 to 1970, Bátiz honed his skills in Poland, studying piano with Zbigniew Drzewiecki and conducting with Stanisław Wisłocki. During this time, he toured Europe and participated in prestigious piano competitions.
Leadership and Achievements
Upon his return to Mexico in 1971, Bátiz became the first conductor of the newly formed State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, a position he continues to hold to this day, with a break from 1983 to 1989 when he served as the principal conductor of the Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 1984, he has also collaborated extensively with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Britain as a guest conductor.
Bátiz has recorded approximately 150 albums, receiving high praise and various awards. His notable recordings include Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" (1984), Saint-Saëns' Third Symphony (1984), Stravinsky's suites from "Petrushka" (1986), and Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances and "The Isle of the Dead" (1992). In 1986, the Brazilian government awarded Bátiz a medal for his first digital recording of Eitor Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasileiras." With the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, he has recorded all the symphonies of Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, as well as the orchestral works of Georges Bizet and Joaquín Rodrigo.

Enrique Bátiz Campbell continues to be an active and influential figure in the world of classical music. He has performed as a guest conductor with various renowned orchestras worldwide, including appearances at the 7th Festival of the World Symphonic Orchestras in Moscow in 2012.
