Origins and Formation (1999-2003)
In 1999, the band Hybryd emerged, featuring Rau Reynolds as lead vocalist and guitarist, Chris Batten on bass guitar, and Rob Rolf on drums. In 2002, they released a mini-album titled "Commit No Nuisance," featuring tracks like "Perfect Pygmalion," "Look Inside," and "Torch Song."
In 2003, with the addition of guitarist Liam "Rory" Cleave, Hybryd evolved into Enter Shikari. Rau shifted his focus to vocals and synthesisers instead of guitar. The band's name was inspired by the boat belonging to Rau Reynolds' uncle.
Emergence and Initial Success (2006-2007)
In August 2006, Enter Shikari released a video single for "Mothership," which became an iTunes Store "Single of the Week." Their first CD single featured re-recorded versions of "Sorry You're Not a Winner/OK Time for Plan B," previously featured on a demo version of their mini-album.
They gained recognition through interviews with popular music magazines like Kerrang! and Rock Sound. They were also included in NME's "New Noise 2007" list of bands predicted to make an impact that year (previous years' issues had featured acts like Arcade Fire, Hot Chip, and Bloc Party).
Their next single, "Anything Can Happen in the Next Half Hour," was released on March 5, 2007, and contained a re-recorded version of the title track. The band released a compilation album titled "The Zone" shortly before their debut album, featuring various demos and previously released singles.
Take to the Skies (2007-2008)
Enter Shikari's debut album, "Take to the Skies," was released on March 19, 2007, and peaked at number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. Throughout March 2007, they announced appearances at Download Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Give It A Name, Glastonbury Festival, Ireland's Oxegen Festival, and Rock am Ring in Germany.
Enter Shikari had played over 500 shows by 2007 and performed on the Gibson/Myspace Stage at Download Festival in 2006. They embarked on their first North American tour on May 14, 2007, which was followed by three more North American tours.
Common Dreads (2009-2011)
In March 2009, NME confirmed that Enter Shikari had completed their second album, "Common Dreads," and announced that they would tour the United Kingdom and Europe in 2009. They made a new song, "Antwerpen," available for free download on their website.
On April 15, 2009, they performed "Juggernauts" on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's "Hottest Track in the World" and released it as a single on June 1, 2009, with "All Eyes On The Saint" as the B-side. The band was assisted by musician Danny Sneddon in the recording of "Juggernauts."
"Common Dreads" was released under Ambush Reality on June 15, 2009, and debuted at number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. The second single released from "Common Dreads" was "No Sleep Tonight," which was released on a 7-inch vinyl, CD single, and MP3 download on August 17, 2009.
A Flash Flood of Colour (2011-2013)
On June 14, 2010, Enter Shikari announced that they had returned to the studio to release a new standalone track titled "Destabilise," which would be available for download on October 26, 2010, and as a limited-edition colored 7-inch vinyl on November 29, 2010.
In June 2011, the band signed with Hopeless Records in the United States and went on the Warped Tour for the second year in a row.
Later in 2011, the band released another standalone single, "Quelle Surprise," before releasing the lead singles "Sssnakepit" and "Gandhi Mate, Gandhi" in September and December, respectively, from their third album.
The band released "A Flash Flood of Colour" on January 16, 2012, and played three headline shows in London, Kingston-upon-Thames, and Leeds to celebrate the album's release.
At the end of its first week on release, the album reached number 4 on the UK charts. At the Kerrang! Awards in the summer of 2012, the band won "Best Band Live" for the second time, along with Rau Reynolds winning "Hero of the Year." They were also nominated for Best Album but lost to Mastodon.
In November 2012, the band announced the launch of their own beer, "Sssnakepit," which was launched in Manchester and sold on the "A Flash Flood Of Christmas" tour at venues across the UK. The band was nominated for Best British Band and Best Live Band at the Kerrang! Awards in 2013 but lost to Bring Me the Horizon and Black Veil Brides, respectively.
Rat Race EP (2013-2014)
In April 2013, the band released a standalone single titled "The Paddington Frisk," later announcing that it was part of a then-untitled three-track EP and would be released later in the year (Rat Race EP). Later in 2013, "Radiate" was released on iTunes. On June 5, 2013, the band announced on their official Twitter account that they were shooting a video for a new single, "Radiate." Five months later, "Rat Race" (the concluding track of the Rat Race EP) was released, after which the three tracks were combined into the Rat Race EP, along with a trance remix of the track "Radiate" created by the band's side project, Shikari Sound System.
The band embarked on a major UK and Ireland tour throughout April and May, specifically playing towns and cities that they have typically not played in as a gesture of thanks to those fans who usually have to travel into larger cities to see bands live.
The Mindsweep (2014-2016)
Towards the end of 2012, bassist Chris Batten stated that the band would begin work on their fourth studio album after 2013's touring cycle was completed. However, Batten also confirmed that the album would not be ready by that year.
On October 8, 2014, the band announced that their fourth album would be titled "The Mindsweep" and would be released on January 19, 2015. The album was preceded by the singles "The Last Garrison" and "Anaesthetist." Additionally, two more tracks were released between November and December 2014: "Never Let Go of the Microscope" and "Slipshod." On January 12, 2015, they uploaded the entire new album for streaming on their website.
In May 2015, they covered System of a Down's "Chop Suey!" for Rock Sound magazine's "Worship and Tributes" compilation, and in June, they contributed their cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Know Your Enemy" to Kerrang! magazine's "Ultimate Rock Heroes" compilation. On October 30, they released their first remix album, "The Mindsweep: Hospitalised," which featured remixes from artists on the drum and bass label Hospital Records.
On January 12, 2016, a new single titled "Redshift" was premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show.
The Spark (2017-present)
The band announced their sixth studio album, "The Spark," with the first single and music video, "Live Outside," released on August 1, 2017. The album was officially released on September 22, 2017.
