Biography of Erdem Moralıoğlu

Born in 1977 near Montreal, Canada, Erdem Moralıoğlu is a British fashion designer of Canadian descent. Growing up, Erdem split his time between Canada and the United Kingdom, where his mother is English and his father is from Turkey. He studied fashion in both countries, attending Ryerson University in Toronto before moving to London in 2000 to intern at Vivienne Westwood's workshop.

After three years, Erdem obtained a master's degree in women's wear design and tailoring from The Royal College of Art. His final collection at the college was chosen to close the student show. Following his studies, he worked as an assistant to Diane von Fürstenberg in New York City, one of Europe and America's most influential designers.

Returning to London, Erdem launched his own eponymous label. His exquisite collections are characterized by sharp silhouettes, innovative cuts, and unique fabric patterns that create incredibly romantic and sensual looks. Erdem's designs incorporate lace, Victorian ruffles, and luxurious French silks and chiffons, transforming traditional femininity into stunning contemporary fashion.

Erdem quickly gained recognition in the industry, winning the Fashion Fringe Award and participating in four London Fashion Week shows. In 2007, he was honored with the prestigious Swarovski British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award. The following year, he received the BFC's Fashion Forward award. Erdem's talent was further acknowledged when he was awarded the Fashion Future Award by Elle magazine in 2009, and his Fall/Winter 2009 collection was included in Style.com's list of the top 10 shows of the season.

Erdem draws inspiration from the works of three great masters: Yves Saint Laurent, Main Bocher, and Charles James. His unique fabric patterns are created using Photoshop, and each dress is made from these custom-designed fabrics. His creations have been worn by celebrities such as Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Thandie Newton, Chloe Sevigny, Michelle Obama, Erin O'Conner, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Ritchie, Elle MacPherson, Tilda Swinton, and Claudia Schiffer.
