Early Life and Hockey Career

Éric Desjardins was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and excelled as a defenseman. In 1987, he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round (38th overall) of the NHL Entry Draft.

NHL Career

Desjardins made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in 1988-89. He quickly established himself as a reliable and physical presence on the ice. In 1992-93, he won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens.

In 1995, Desjardins was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers along with Gilbert Dionne and John LeClair in exchange for Mark Recchi. He spent the rest of his NHL career with the Flyers, becoming a fan favorite for his toughness and leadership.

Accolades and Honors

Throughout his NHL career, Desjardins was recognized for his accomplishments. He was a three-time NHL All-Star (1992, 1996, 2000). He was also named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 2000. In addition, Desjardins was a member of the Canadian team that won the silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano.

Retirement and Coaching

Desjardins retired from playing in 2006. In 2008, he joined the Philadelphia Flyers organization as a coach for their junior team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He has since held various coaching positions within the organization.
