Early Beginnings

Eric Morillo was born in New York City, USA, to Colombian parents. From a young age, he was drawn to the rhythms of Latin, reggae, and hip-hop music, and began performing at house parties and family weddings at just 11 years old. His entry into the house music scene came through an introduction to Marc Anthony.

Rise to Fame

After acquiring essential equipment, Morillo began submitting his work to labels Nervous and Strictly Rhythm. After several rejections, Strictly Rhythm signed his track "The New Anthem" under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real. Shortly after the release of "The New Anthem," Morillo produced "I Like To Move It," which became a platinum hit in the Netherlands and gold in the UK, Germany, France, and Belgium. Riding on the wave of success, the young producer embarked on a European tour, received multiple accolades from Billboard and other award ceremonies, and decided to return to his passion for DJing.

Subliminal Records and Production Ventures

In 1997, with the support of his friends and partners Harry Romero and Jose Nunez, Morillo founded Subliminal Records. In 1999 and 2000, Subliminal was named "Label of the Year" by the Muzik Awards. Its sub-labels, Sondos, Subliminal Soul, Bambossa, and Subusa, released a diverse range of music. Morillo remained active as a DJ, balancing his performance schedule with studio work. Along with running his weekly Sessions parties in New York City, he took Subliminal on the road, hosting events such as the annual Crobar party during the Winter Music Conference. In 2001, the Subliminal Sessions at Pacha received the title of "Best Parties in Ibiza." In 2004, they received the Best Night Award from Mixmag.

Production Highlights

Morillo was the producer behind the popular 1990s project Reel 2 Real. The single "I Like To Move It" became a global hit. Morillo also produced numerous other tracks under aliases such as Ministers De la Funk, The Dronez (a collaboration with Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero and Jose Nunez), RAW, Smooth Touch, RBM, Deep Soul, Club Ultimate, and Li'l Mo Ying Yang.
