Serikbolsyn Abdildin: Statesman of Kazakhstan
Kazakh statesman Serikbolsyn Abdildin served as Vice-President of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 1991 to 1993.
Early Life and Education
Born on March 10, 1936, in the village of Baigabul in the Kushtanai Region, Abdildin graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Kazakh State University in 1958. He later earned a postgraduate degree from the Moscow Finance Institute in 1963.
Academic and Government Career
From 1959 to 1967, Abdildin worked as a lecturer and researcher in Moscow and Almaty. In 1963, he became head of the Department of Financial Planning and Inter-Industry Balance at the Research Institute of Economic Studies under the State Planning Committee of the Kazakh SSR.
Political Rise
Abdildin's political career began in 1967, when he joined the apparatus of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. From 1986 to 1988, he served as head of a department within the Central Committee.
Chairman of the Supreme Council
In April 1990, Abdildin was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR. During his tenure, he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1990 and a People's Deputy of the USSR in 1991.
Vice-President
Following Kazakhstan's independence in December 1991, Abdildin was appointed Vice-President of the Kazakh SSR and later Vice-President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He served in this position until 1993.
Later Career
After leaving the vice-presidency, Abdildin was appointed as Kazakhstan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Germany from 1996 to 2000.
Legacy and Death
Abdildin passed away on August 23, 2004. A civil funeral ceremony was held in his honor at the M. Auezov Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater in Almaty on August 24, 2004.
