Biography of Eric Fisher

Eric Fisher, an American alpine skier, was born in Middleton, Ohio. He started skiing at the age of three as part of a school skiing program. One day, while waiting for the other kids to finish their lesson, he decided to ski down the mountain on his own. When his absence was discovered, the ski instructors searched the entire mountain for him. Eric was reprimanded for disobeying instructions but was then moved to a group of more experienced children for further training. Even as a child, Eric had a passion for high speeds. His parents had to bribe him with candy to make him practice turns because he was only interested in long straight descents.

At the age of seven, Eric began racing with the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance team. Due to his father's regular job transfers, Eric's family had to move frequently. He lived and trained in various places such as Snowbowl and Flagstaff, Arizona, Sundance and Provo Canyon, Utah, and Park City, Utah. When he turned fifteen, his family returned to Idaho. By the end of his high school years in 2003, Eric was already an Olympic and national junior medalist. The following year, he attended the Rowmark Ski Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah, and joined the training squad of the U.S. Ski Team.

Eric worked tirelessly for the next ten years to fulfill his dream of representing his country. He had to sacrifice a lot and remain incredibly determined and never give up. He even had a poster on his wall that said "Never Give Up!" Thanks to the actions of the U.S. Ski Team coaches, Eric's performance began to improve. He won the bronze medal in the Junior World Championships in 2005, solidifying his status as a member of Group C. A silver medal in the European Cup and a victory in the NorAm super G championship in 2006 helped him move up to Group B.

Eric's aggressive and always ready for a new challenge character greatly aided his further athletic career. In the 2006-2007 Nor-Am season, he reached the podium a total of nine times, ultimately winning in two categories. In 2007-2008, Eric suffered an injury at his first World Cup event, and he had to spend the rest of the season recovering. For the 2008-2009 World Cup, he trained with double the energy, determined to overcome the consequences of the injury. His hard work paid off as he entered the top thirty skiers in the world and finally made it to the A team. He set two American team records - best rookie finish in Val Gardena, Italy (7th place), and Kitzbühel, Austria (11th place). Soon after, Eric set another record for the team, leading five Americans to break into the top ten skiers in the world.

Currently, Eric is part of the Olympic team, and he is determined to achieve nothing less than gold in Vancouver. He is the only son of Dave and Shelly Fisher and has three siblings. In his childhood, he also enjoyed playing football and baseball, but his ski training gradually took up all his free time. Eric also had a passion for motocross until he broke his leg in five places during a race, forcing him to leave alpine skiing for an entire season.
