Biography of Erik Guay
Erik Guay is a Canadian alpine skier from Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. He is best known for his successful performance at the 2010 World Cup, where he won the super-G event. Guay is part of a group of Canadian skiers known as the "Canadian Cowboys," which also includes John Kucera, Jan Hudec, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, and Robbie Dixon. This nickname is a nod to the "Crazy Canucks," a group of popular Canadian skiers from the 1970s and 1980s.

Among the five members of the group, Guay is the only one from the eastern province of Quebec, while Kucera and Hudec are from Alberta, and Osborne-Paradis and Dixon are from British Columbia. The Canadian Cowboys are a frequent topic of news in Canada, and they are often compared to the "Speed Queens" - Emily Brydon, Britt Janyk, and Kelly VanderBeek.

Despite hosting the Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1988, no Canadian skier managed to crack the top ten in any event. This trend continued leading up to the Vancouver Games, where only two Canadian skiers had won Olympic medals. Steve Podborski won a bronze in the downhill event in 1980, and Ed Podivinsky won a bronze in 1994.
Guay has been a member of the Canadian national team since 1998. Although he participated in the 2006 Olympics, he did not reach the podium. He finished fourth in the super-G event, just a tenth of a second behind the bronze medalist. The following year, he again placed fourth in the downhill event at the World Championships, missing the bronze by only two-hundredths of a second.
Throughout his career, Guay has stood on the World Cup podium ten times, with only one of those occasions being a first-place finish. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Guay competed in freestyle skiing and gained attention with his first run. He achieved two fifth-place finishes in the super-G and downhill events, as well as a sixteenth-place finish in the giant slalom event.
In January 2009, Guay became a father when his fiancée, Canadian model Karen Sherris, gave birth to their daughter. They named her Logan Elizabeth. Soon after her birth, Guay went on to compete in another competition, but he admitted that his mind was always back at home with his family.
