Armenian Businessman, Statesman, and Politician
Early Life and EducationGagik Beglaryan, an Armenian businessman, state leader, and politician, began his educational journey at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1963 to 1968. He later pursued advanced studies at the Institute of Management at the Moscow Academy of National Economy from 1987 to 1988. In 1988, he embarked on a doctoral program at the Moscow Engineering and Construction Institute named after Kuibyshev, where he obtained his Candidate of Economic Sciences degree.
Early Career in Construction
Beglaryan's professional career began in 1962 at the "Tsvetmetstroy" trust in Yerevan, followed by a role as a fitter at "Razdanstroy" in 1963-1964. From 1966 to 1974, he served as an engineer and section head at the "Teplostroy" construction management. After leading a production workshop at Razdan Ore Mining and Chemical Plant from 1974 to 1977, Beglaryan took on the position of head of the construction management department at the "Armzoloto" production association from 1977 to 1983.
Leadership in Gas Infrastructure
Beglaryan's expertise in the gas industry led him to become the manager of the "Armgazstroy" trust within the State Gas Supply Committee of Armenia from 1983 to 1992. He later ascended to the position of Deputy Minister of Energy in Armenia from 1992 to 1993.
Transportation and Government Service
Following his tenure in the energy sector, Beglaryan led a production and construction company in Moscow from 1994 to 1997. He returned to Armenia in 1997 as the General Director of State Enterprise "Armtransgaz" and subsequently served as Minister of Transport of Armenia from 1998 to 2000.
In 2000, Beglaryan was appointed Deputy Minister of State Revenues, a position he held until 2001. He was then reappointed Minister of Transport and Communication, before serving as Minister of State Revenues from 2001 to 2003.
Mayor of Yerevan
From 2003 to 2009, Beglaryan held the esteemed position of Mayor of Yerevan. During his tenure, he implemented significant infrastructure and development projects within the capital city.
Presidential Advisor and Committee Chairman
In 2009, Beglaryan was appointed Advisor to the President of Armenia. He subsequently served as Chairman of the Committee on Real Estate Cadastre under the Government of Armenia from 2009 to 2014.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources
On 30 April 2014, Beglaryan was appointed Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, a position he held until 29 February 2016.
