Early Life & Military Service

Born on May 20, 1920, in Troitsko-Khartsyzsk, Ukraine, to a working-class family, Yevgeny Antonovich Alekhnovich's path to heroism began in 1940 when he joined the Red Army. In 1943, he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation School.

A Rising Star in Combat

With the outbreak of World War II, Alekhnovich took to the skies as a member of the 142nd Guards Shtomavi Aviation Regiment on the Steppe and 1st Ukrainian Fronts. He participated in the epic Battle of Kursk and played a crucial role in numerous sorties against enemy forces.

A Gallant Demise

On January 13, 1945, during the liberation of Poland, Alekhnovich's plane was severely damaged. With unwavering determination, he steered his aircraft towards an enemy anti-aircraft battery, sacrificing himself to protect his comrades.

Posthumous Recognition

In recognition of his extraordinary valor, Alekhnovich was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on June 27, 1945. His name remains etched in the annals of aviation history as a testament to his unwavering spirit and selfless sacrifice.

Legacy of Honor
