Early Life and Football Career
Viktor Verbitsky's passion for football began in his hometown of Mykolaiv, Ukraine. Under the guidance of esteemed coaches Pavel Khudoyash and Ivan Lychko, he developed his exceptional skills as a striker.
Domestic Achievements
Verbitsky's playing career was marked by numerous accolades. He reached the semi-finals of the Soviet Cup in 1969 and secured a remarkable silver and bronze medal in the Ukrainian SSR Championship in 1971 and 1973, respectively.
League Dominance
As a key player for FC Sudostroitel, the Mykolaiv-based football club, Verbitsky established himself as a prolific goalscorer. He holds the record as the team's highest goalscorer in the Soviet Union Championship with an impressive 124 goals. Furthermore, he claimed the title of the Ukrainian Zone's Second League Top Scorer in 1975 and 1979.
Individual Recognition
Verbitsky's exceptional performance on the pitch earned him numerous accolades. He was consistently named Sudostroitel's Top Scorer for several seasons (1971, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979). In 1975, he was recognized as one of the "22 Best Footballers of Ukraine" and held the title of "Left Winger."
A Ukrainian Legend
In 1979, Verbitsky achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Ukrainian forward to score 100 goals in the Ukrainian SSR Championship (Second League). To honor his accomplishments, a symbolic "Viktor Verbitsky Club of Bombers" was established.
Later Career and Legacy
After retiring from professional football, Verbitsky remained actively involved in the sport. He became a member of the Mykolaiv Regional Football Federation and served as an inspector for the region's championship matches. His contributions to the development of football in Mykolaiv continue to inspire young players and fans alike.
